Is your Keurig brewing coffee slower than usual? Or the coffee has a different taste? This might be due to one reason that you had not cleaned your coffee maker since long.
Cleaning Keurig coffee maker is quite easy and quick. So, if you are thinking your whole day would be wasted, it’s all myth. What you need to do is, learn correct technique of cleaning and it is all done.
So, here is a step-by-step guide to learn how to clean your Keurig coffee maker.
Disassemble the Brewer: Lift the handle and remove the cover of the brewer. Now remove the K-cup holder inside. If you don’t know how to remove it: grab the top of the holder using one hand. Then push up on the bottom of the K-cup assembly from below using the other hand. After the time the assembly should release.
Do it calmly because there are two sharp needles present inside that could hurt you. Disassemble the remaining parts, pull the funnel with ease until it separates from the K-cup holder. Also, remove the drip tray by pulling it away from the base of the machine.
Clean the Disassembled Parts: All the removable parts are dishwasher safe. Keep all the parts on the top of the rack of a dishwasher. Keep the setting on standard wash and use mild dish detergent.
If you wish to wash K-cup holder by hand, wash it with warm to hot running water. If you want you can even wash the funnel, drip plate and drip tray by hand. All you need to do is soak all the pieces in hot soapy water. Then, scrub them using non-abrasive cloth. Wash it properly to remove all the soap residue. Now dry all the pieces well and then clean with a dish towel or paper towel.
Clean the Exit Needle: There are exit needles with three holes are present in inside bottom and upper portions of the K-cup holder. Just insert a paper clip into each needle and remove any debris present.
This step of the cleaning process is really important because coffee ground and cocoa mix get easily lodged in the exit needle. Remember one thing that you cannot poke through the needle to the other side.
Clean the water reservoir and removable lid: Be careful because these parts are not dishwasher safe and you should wash them using a hand. For cleaning, you can use clean water and non-abrasive cloth.
Try not to use cleansers and detergents to clean these elements. Doing so, near the water reservoir can pollute your water supply for future use.
Wipe down the outside of the machine: Check if any water stain or dried coffee grounds remain on the front of the brewer if so, wipe it away using damp, non-abrasive cloth. Remember, never immerse the entire brewer in the water.
Reassemble the brewer: Attach the funnel back onto the K-cup and insert it back into the machine.
